School Tour
Last Thursday the two Senior Infant classes went on their school tour to the Community Centre playground. Ms. Costelloe and Ms. Walsh accompanied us. We walked in pairs through Corkagh Park and down to the Community Centre. We left all our belongings under a tree and went off to play in the playground. There were so many different things to do and see!
We stopped for a break at 10.30 to have some food and a drink. After our break we played for another half an hour before tidying up and heading back to school. It was a very long walk and we were quite tired after it, but we had so much fun on the day! Check out our pictures in the video below!

Sports Day
The Junior and Senior Infant Sports Day took place last Tuesday in the field beside the church. Fifth class were a huge help to us. They went down to the field to organise different stations for us to complete activities at. There was an obstacle course, javelin throwing, football, basket ball and tennis. We had so much fun!
After lunch we took part in races in the field. We competed against each other as a whole class. Then the boys in our class completed against the boys in Ms. Duffy's class. Finally the girls in our class competed against the girls in Ms. Duffy's class. We cheered on the other classes when it was our turn to watch. We finished off Sports Day with some bubble time.
A special thanks to Ms. Costelloe, Ms. Ryan, Ms. Dempsey, Ms. O'Malley, Ms. O'Neill, Ms. Duffy and especially to 5th class for all their help in the lead up to Sports Day and organisation on the day itself. Watch the two videos below to see how much fun we had on our Sports Day!

Our Summer gardens
We have been very busy in Visual Arts over the past few weeks making our own Summer Gardens!
We watched a video which told us all about the different plants and animals that are found in a garden in summer time. We then drew our own summer gardens - some of them had ponds with bridges, others had lovely flowers and animals; and we had a few gardens with climbing frames and seating areas!
We brought in old shoe boxes and empty cereal boxes and painted these blue (for the sky) and green (for the grass). When the paint had dried we stuck fabric and fibre into our boxes to bring them to life. We have great imaginations and our summer gardens turned out beautifully!

Structured Play
Structured play takes place in the classroom daily. It is a great way for us to learn in a relaxed, hands-on and active environment. It helps us to develop our gross motor skills and dexterity, social skills, language and literacy, problem-solving strategies, abstract thinking and imagination.
We complete different activities each day such as literacy or maths games, drawing, cutting, writing, reading, completing jigsaws, making things with play-doh, playing with toy cars or animals and board games. We also love to play make-believe with dolls, a kitchen and BBQ set or our office area.

Music is Magic
Michelle from Music is Magic is completing Music workshops with us once a week.
We have been having lots of fun learning how to play percussion instruments, we get to play instruments every week. Michelle holds up the cards piano, forte, lento and allegro and we must play our instruments quietly, loudly, slowly or quickly depending on the card/cards that Michelle holds up.
In our first class Michelle brought in balloons for us to play with. The balloons helped us understand the different length of notes that make up the Rhythm family.
We learned about Granny Semibreve, Mr. Minim, Mrs. Crotchet and Little Miss Quaver from the Rhythm family in our second class. The Rhythm family love to visit Mrs. Treble who lives in Melody House. The Rhythm family are allowed to sit on any one of Mrs. Treble's many seats when they visit her. To help her remember all the seats, Mrs. Treble has named them a, b, c, d, e, f and g.
In our third class we got to pretend we were bumble bees. We used pieces of cloth to help us pretend to fly and we had to collect nectar from different plants. As the end of the class we did some waltzing too! It has been so much fun so far.
In our fourth class watched a video based on Creepy Crawly Calypso. We thought of lots of different creepy crawlies and we assigned different musical instruments to represent them. When it was our turn we played our instruments to the music. We also had to think of lots of different jobs that a gardener does such as mowing the lawn, cutting the trees and watering the plants. We pretended we were gardeners and did actions to our song.
In our fifth workshop we began our class by revising everything we had learned about Mrs. Treble's house and all her visitors. We then had to listen to some music very carefully as it told us if we should be walking, marching, skating etc. We finished our lesson by learning the grasshopper reel "Can you dance?", it was lots of fun!

Maths
Over the past couple of weeks we have been learning about money in Maths. We got to play with 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c and 20c coins in class. We spent a lot of time discussing the coins and we described what they looked like and how we knew which coin was which. We learned that the coins are made up of different values and we completed activities based on coin value. We categorized our coins and we completed lots of work in our Maths book and on worksheets about money too. Look at the video below to see us hard at work!
Art
As part of our spring theme we made spring flowers using clay. Before using the clay we practised with mála during activity time. At the start of our Art lesson we discussed different types of spring flowers and what they look like. We thought of the flowers that we wanted to make.
In our first class we sculpted the clay flowers. We had to work quickly as air dries out the clay and makes it difficult to work with. We made sure that our clay structures were nice and thick so they wouldn't break easily.
We left our flowers to dry for a week before painting them. We thought of all the different colours we could use to make our flowers lovely and bright. Check out our clay flowers in the videos below!!
