We have been very busy in Senior Infants, Room 3 over the past few weeks since Ms. Bardon began teaching us.
Sam (our fairy) has arrived!!
Before Christmas, a lady called Niamh from the Fairy Door Company came to visit our class and gave us a fairy door! She told us all about the fairies and explained to us that if we all ‘believed’ then a fairy would come to our classroom. We decided that we would like a male fairy and when he arrived we called him Sam. We have received notes from Sam and we know he has been in our classroom because he left fairy dust behind him!!! Sam comes into our classroom during the night and looks at our work – he told us last week that he looked through our workbooks and that we have lovely writing.
Mata sa Rang and 2d Shapes
We have been doing a programme called “Mata sa Rang” instead of having Maths lessons over the past three months. Ms. Costelloe, Ms. Walsh, Ms. Merrins and Ms. Lee come into our classroom four days a week. We move from table to table to complete different maths activities such as identifying numbers, finger patterns, counting forwards and backwards and playing maths games. It is lots of fun and we really enjoy it!
We recently learned about 2D shapes. We learned about a triangle, a square, a circle and a rectangle. We looked all around the room and picked out the different types of shapes we see every day. We also cut out the different shapes and stuck them onto a template to make robots.

Social, Environmental and Scientific Education
In S.E.S.E. we were learning about babies. We learned how the mummy’s tummy gets bigger and bigger and that is important that she eats properly to help her baby grow inside her. We also learned that when it is time for the baby to be born the mummy must go into hospital. We listened to “Jake’s Story”, he told us about his baby sister.
We also brought in our baby photographs and they are on display in our classroom. We had lots of fun looking at the photographs and tried to guess who was in each photograph!

Art
In Art we looked at a photograph of Jackson Pollock at work. He is an artist. We discussed how he makes paintings by blowing and splattering the paint. We also looked at one of his paintings and named all the different things we could see. We then made our own “Blow and Splatter” paintings. We had to dip a straw into paint that had been watered down. We then held the straw over a page and blew into it so the paint would splatter onto the page. Our pictures are lovely and colourful.
We also made Christmas cards for our families. We drew different designs on the front of our cards and then stuck different types of fabric and fibre onto them to make them more personal. We also wrote a Christmas message inside to our families. We hope you liked them!
English
In English we have been very busy reading The Big Horse and practising our What a Mess! words. We have been reading What a Mess! in school and look forward to reading it at home. We have been practising writing our letters and discussing the different sounds that letters make. We recently wrote “Our News” and drew a picture to go along with it so all our visitors could read what we’ve been up to.
